Leaving For Our Big Ultrasound! July 31, 2012

Of course I am hoping and praying that baby is healthy and happy in there but I have to say I am so so curious!

Pink or blue? Hopefully baby cooperates because I would be super anxious if I couldn’t find out!

Team pink?

Team blue again?

Oh baby heaven forbid! Don’t do it to mommy! Show the goods!

Rainbow Newborn Fluff

Filed under: Cloth Diapering,Eco friendly,Johnathon,Self sufficiency,Zephaniah — rorosarahbeth @ 2:39 am

I cloth diaper my kids. Mostly because well, I am cheap, but I DO care about the environment too and want to do my small part to live greenly. When I found out I was pregnant with this babe I ordered a dozen rainbow-colored Alva newborns through a co-op because the price was very good and almost all of my newborn diapers I bought with Zephaniah were shredded thanks to Rockin’ Green. I think these will work pretty well for this baby and they are my favorite style of diapers!  I love pockets because they are super easy to use but still can tailor the absorbency to my babe’s needs.  Most of my stash is Sunbaby one-size diapers! I just love them! They work well and Johnathon can wear them if he is sick or at night. (Well if he doesn’t pee through them at night!) I prepped my new fluff yesterday since I got them on Saturday and they look good! A stacked rainbow of baby diapers! I think I will need about a dozen or so more before baby gets here but I am not sure if I will get more Alvas or if I will go for a more locally made diaper again. It depends mostly on finances since everything looks a little uncertain at the moment. I would prefer to help a local mom send her child to ballet classes or swimming lessons then help an executive buy his third vacation home but I have to be able to afford it.

Rainbow newborn fluff!

Zephaniah passed out after playing with Fergie’s fluff!

I also need to make another batch of laundry detergent. I am thinking of adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to this batch because I LOVE lavender! It is by far one of my most favorite smells. It really does relax me and just makes me just happy. In my happy place there are fields of lavender that go for miles. I really like making my own detergent since it saves me so much money and in my opinion it just gets my clothes and diapers so much cleaner.

The recipe I use is
1/3 bar of grated Fels Naptha Soap
1/2 cup of WASHING soda (Not baking soda!)
1/2 cup of borax
6 cups of water
4 cups of very hot water
1 gallon plus 6 cups of water

In a very large sauce pan heat grated Fels Naptha soap and water until combined and the soap melts. Slowly add washing soda and borax and stir until combined. Add 4 cups of very hot water and transfer to a bucket (Or if you are like me and using a HUGE canning pan remove from heat and add the very hot water) and stir well. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water stir and let stand over night. If you are like me let stand about 24 hours until kids finally go to sleep again! Then transfer to your container of choice and use 1/2 cup per load and 1/4 cup per diaper load.

Restful Day of Hodge Podge :-) July 30, 2012

Today was just a lazy day. We did a few cleaning projects but we mostly just spent quiet time as a family. I am working on Zephaniah’s crib mobile (I know, bad mommy!) and in my defense I haven’t had a chance to work on it since we were homeless when he was born. But I guess I could have worked on it when we moved in but I just haven’t wanted to. 😉 Anyway we had grilled veggies (on our George Foreman Grill since we apartment dwellers!)  for lunch and dinner since this is what Fergie demanded.

We find out -baby willing,  in a few days what we are having. For some reason I keep thinking of the letter M in my head when I think of names. I wonder if we will pick an M name! Sean is horrible and shooting down all my name choices again, just like he did with Zephaniah, you think he would learn by now!  And believe it or not I have found the best resource for baby names I have found is Wikipedia! Easy to use and from what I can tell (After asking the experts!) that it is pretty accurate as far as meanings go and it has convenient lists prepared for me since I want to use Bible names.

For now I think most people are just waiting to hear PINK OR BLUE? Including me! I am super excited to find out!

Zephaniah’s FIRST Birthday Party! July 29, 2012

Today had a rough start since Sean had a seizure this morning. I had to move him so he wouldn’t hurt himself really bad and hurt myself in the process. I guess lifting your husband who weighs more than you do while pregnant isn’t always a good idea. 🙂 He’s fine and I will be fine.  I had many amazing friends come together and we made his party happen. It was wonderful and low-key and the kids all seemed to love it!

Zephaniah seemed to enjoy his smash cake a whole lot which I am so happy about. He started slow but eventually just started flinging it everywhere!  He made a lovely mess out of the table and himself but that was an easy fix since I put a plastic table cover down and he is easy to hose off.

He also loved his presents from everyone! However he also loved the grass and the paper too! You know kids though, no matter how expensive and cool the toy is they will play with the box!

Anyway here are some pictures 🙂

Cupcake decorating! July 28, 2012

So I decided to do cupcakes for Zephaniah’s Party tomorrow because that would be so much easier then cake. What I didn’t think about was frosting them!  I have no idea how to pipe things and just slapping the icing on them wouldn’t look very cute. Good thing I have good friends willing to help me! I had  three friends show up and we had a blast icing cupcakes! I even took some pictures. I learned how to ice and use a piping bag the right way! It was way way easier then I thought it was going to be. Pretty excited to use my new found skills again soon!  Hopefully for Johnathon’s birthday! He wants a Ponyo birthday! Lord  help me!

We took the kids into the pool for a little bit once we were done to cool off after being in the hot kitchen for so long.  We went in a little hot and came out freezing!  Then we sat around and talked some. 🙂 We are going to hang out again since we all agreed it was super fun!

Now for pictures of our hard work!

A single cupcake!

The pile of cupcakes! Forgive me,  I am new to instagram and have no idea why the border is there and not on the first picture!

Amazing Brenda piped this all for Zephaniah’s smash cake! How fun!

Preschool July 27, 2012

Who thought preschool would be so complicated? I am calling around to preschools all over and trying to talk to someone. I would prefer to send Johnathon to a Christian preschool if possible but we may not be able to afford that right now (they seem like they are all over $100 a month!) So I am also looking into more affordable state run options for him too. I worry because of his immune problems but he really really wants and needs some big kid time, especially with this new baby coming. He heard me talking about sending him to school and he got so excited. He asked me all day yesterday and all day today if we were going to school yet. I keep telling him that it is a bit off still but he insists it is very soon. He even went and got his backpack ready to go, packing the essentials: Piplup the penguin Pokemon, Jesse the yodeling cowgirl, Buzz Lightyear, and raisins in case he gets hungry. He decided that he was going to wear just his Buzz Lightyear underwear and his Cars shoes to school. I explained to him that while Cars shoes and Buzz underwear where find for home that there were rules at Preschool about what you need to be wearing. He seemed to understand that pretty well. Then I had to explain to him again that school was not today. I am very excited to take him school shopping this year but I am dreading having him away from me a little every day. I don’t like that he is growing up so fast but I am so proud of his accomplishments. He is such a smart and caring little guy, he always has time to take care of someone who is a little down. He loves playing with other kids his own age, or even those a little younger or older.  He has patience for others and sometimes is a little over-zealous in his love and need to help.

Gosh I sure do love this little guy ❤

Organizing, Sorting, Getting Rid of Stuff and Making Room for Baby! July 26, 2012

I have spent most of today going through CRAP and bagging it up to get rid of. I guess nesting is starting a little early for me this time? Does that mean this one will be an early bird like Zephaniah? You would be surprised how much stuff a family of 4.5 accumulates over time. I am excited to  finish a trade I’ve been working on for a bunch of storage tubs. I am going to use them to sort the boys (and Fergie’s) clothes by size.  And I am just getting rid of all by my favorite 4-5 outfits from my “Skinny” clothes that will probably never fit me again anyway!  The plan is to barter/trade a few things and give most of it away. If no one local wants it I am making a huge trip to the Goodwill. We need to make room for another dresser and crib! And the usual slew of baby clothes, shoes, blankets, diapers, socks, toys, bouncers swings, carriers, and miscellaneous stuff you are always convinced you need.

I did however put on my swim suit and take a dip in the community pool with my boys. 🙂

I’m starting to look/feel a little more pregnant too. 18 weeks 3 days along! Big brother Johnathon was loving on “Fergie”  right before we went out to the pool. 🙂
